Dirge Without Music

Steve Tateossian recently wrote me about my domain name for this site. He later asked me if I was a fan of the poet, Edna St. Vincent Millay. When I inquired as to the reason for his question, he responded:

The phrase, 'time out of mind' originates in the poem, Dirge without Music.

I wasn't aware of the poem's connection until I read it this morning, it is a powerful expression of the loss of a human being to death. The author is correct, there is no other emotion like it. It's distinction is in its degree to affect our lives forever after.

I'm no stranger to death. My experiences with the death's of others started at age five and continued frequently throughout my life.

Of everything I every read, thought about, or wrote regarding the loss of family and friends, nothing comes as close to what Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote in her poem.
