We can never completely and accurately recall past events as they occurred in reality at that time. All recollections are colored to some degree by our mind.

On the other hand, the general theme of events as they transpired can stay clear for decades, waiting for reemergence.

In this Bryce image, the actual picture of the individual is clear. In the reflection, the image is blurred. If you could sit in the chair and look at the front of the picture, you would see what I mean. It is the same difference of being in the moment and being removed from that moment.
