The moment the world came into life, limits were imposed on everything. As time passed, humans arrived, in their explorations their activities and curiosities often exceeded what reason would support.

In the ancient Age of the Gods, humans who ventured too far needed to be reminded of their limits, reestablishment of their place as mere mortals. The Gods created the Kraken, provided a domain for it to reign, as one way to teach those lessons of discipline.

The humans who understood their limits, respected the natural ways of order, never ventured past the Pillars of the Kraken to risk the unknown lessons.
