[History and permission]:

It was the first song I ever wrote and I was 19 years old at the time. We used to perform it with the Jay Dees and have a good recording of that version. It is not registered with ASCAP. I do currently have the Jay Dees version entered in a song contest.

Here are the details:

Title: BLUE RAIN
Copyright date: Feb 7, 1977
Copyright Registration No.: Eu 759192

You have my permission to do anything you want with the song. -- Harold Jennings

[Notes by Gene Weed]:

This is notably one of the most nostalgic 1950's style Blues songs ever written; BLUE RAIN, by ASCAP composer Harold Jennings. This copyrighted tune (©1977 JENNINGS) was originally performed by the famous JAY DEES, and who are now known as THE ENVOYS. Now playing on our Track 01. This is a pre release exclusive preview for the JAZZ NETWORK Community.

Introducing one of the newest upcoming female JAZZ Vocalist's TARA STULL, recreating this haunting number one hit for the first time since 1977. Not only is this track an historical composition, the background harmony is performed by a trio who could be the only ones telling this true story: THE ENVOYS themselves:

Harold Jennings; lead vocal, guitar and composer
Jack Johnson; tenor, bass guitar
Jon Johnson; vocal harmony, guitar
Victor Sharpe; tenor saxophone

This is a pre-release of an upcoming CD to be released by STUDIO 57A -

HIGHLIGHTS Listen to the wonderful fill-talk-back and solos of the 'Stan Getz' inspired styles of veteran tenor saxophonist Victor Sharpe. Carefully tune in to the wonderful harmonic blends of the seasoned ENVOYS with Tara's ANGELIC delivery. Then you will agree with me; it is truly the 1950's all over again!

Sherry and I went to Old Tucson in Arizona on our 29th Anniversary, April 21, 2002. That attraction is one of the places many movies were made from 1939 on. One of my favorite movies is, Rio Bravo, released in 1959.

I have many digital camera shots of Old Tucson, here.

There are a number of stuntmen working there and they put on several performances a day. Immediatly after one of those performances, I was asked to video tape the guys. This scene had everyone laughing afterwards. I told the guys I was putting this up on my site, so I hope they get a chance to see it. Thanks guys, for a wonderful day.

Old Tucson Welcome is about 12 seconds long and 3.9 MB in size.

In late July and early August 2001, I took a long trip through many of the western United States. One of the places I stopped was at the Golden Spike National Historic Site, near Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a hot dry day on July 30, 2001. It was also the day I drove 740 miles in my 1997 Ford Escort. ;-)

Here is a short QuickTime video I made using Apple's, iMovie software of the reenactment.
