Pay It Forward

The above image is of the special award presented to me this week

Today's song is To Give (The Reason I Live) by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, released in 1968.

On the March 19, 2008 page, I wrote about the end of my five-year membership in Twin Oaks Toastmasters club. On Wednesday, March 26, 2008, I served as Toastmaster for my last official meeting.

At the start of that meeting, I was surprised by the presentation with the above award from the entire club. The President of the club, Veronica, announced it, initiating an emotional moment. That was followed by a very emotional speech by one of my dear friends in the club, Maria Dolores, whom spoke about me. The kleenex came in handy for the both of us at that point.

The reason such strong feelings exist for we in the club is because we really care about each other. We have to care in order to be in a position to offer support to each other because for most people, speaking in public is something they endure stress to overcome. Yes, that's right, they take on more stress while they learn how to let it go and become confident leaders who also know how to speak comfortably in public. We are almost a family, that's how close the feelings get in our club.

We rejoice when each new person joins and feel a certain amount of sadness when they move on away from the club. In my case, I think of my departure as a transition instead of leaving outright. I know in my heart I can never really leave the club. I will be there in spirit in one form or another. Sometimes I will be there in-person to visit. I told them that.

I believe in the Pay It Forward philosophy. My best results come from that attitude. I am proud of my new award because it comes from a group of people who also believe in that philosophy too.

I created the song, Icebreaker Blues, to celebrate my final meeting as a member of the Twin Oaks Toastmasters club after five years of membership. There is also a digital image of the same name. The Icebreaker Blues Lyrics (PDF) includes that digital image.

There are two mp3 versions with lyrics:

Dennis Hayes and his Canadian band, Blackdog Blue are licensing my Twin Flames image once again. The album is called Staring at the Sun (shown below).

I take it as a consumer win that Comcast has seen the light. Their reversal could be considered as another form of paying it forward because the ability to use the Internet without undue restriction fosters freedom.
