2010 PMI-SD Volunteerism
![]() Today's song is Time For Livin' by The Association, released in 1968. Anyone who knows me, knows I vote with my feet. In Employment, Relationships, Political Perspectives, and Volunteerism, I'm committed as long as the situation is not status quo. As soon as I'm working harder than smarter, then it's time for a change. For over three years now, I've been a member of Project Management Institute's San Diego Component referred to as PMI-SD. This year I've volunteered on several projects, including serving with a great team of other project managers for the last three months on the Component's 2009 Project of the Year (POY). In particular, for the last month I've chaired the sub-set of that team to manage the Winner Presentation this coming May 14th at the 2010 Annual Conference. I report to the two Co-Chairs of the POY proper in that capacity. Now I'm considering being involved in the Component's Ambassador program. That program is another team-oriented project. As an Ambassador, the duties involve sitting at the dinner meetings, initiating discussions between the other attendees at my table. The job requires answering questions about PMI-SD, taking notes about their concerns, steering them to the person in authority to help them resolve an issue. I think it's also a responsibility to promote volunteerism there. The membership of PMI-SD is about 1,500 members. The Board of Directors set a goal of doubling that number in the new few years. I'd like to help reach that membership goal by voting with my feet. Don
