"O" Yes We Can!

The above image, Don's Facebook Wall is also available as a Desktop Background

Today's song is Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder, released in 1983.

My city of San Marcos, California, is having a citizen initiative called Proposition O on its local ballot in November. I wrote about it on my Citizen Power page. I'm voting Yes on Prop O.

There are signs all over the city urging citizens to vote No on this measure. The groups against the measure are outspending those for by a huge margin. So what?

I have received a letter from the Mayor's office that basically states gloom-and-doom if the measure passes. How little faith the Mayor and current City Council has for we the citizens of the city.

I have no idea whether the measure will actually pass or not. No one does. I am counting on the huge backlash by voters all across this nation [1; 2] to be out in force this election day. Maybe enough of the voters in San Marcos will agree with citizens like me and by passing Prop O, get back the power to control our city against reckless exemptions to the Growth Management Plan.

Sensible growth is a good thing. Developers should be developing within the regular Growth Plan and not need Exemptions. The Exemptions they ask for are way out-of-line with what the Growth Plan called for in the first place.

From all the money being spent against the plan by developers and their related organizations, they must be pretty scared that the measure will pass. I hope their fears are realized on election night and that my concerns of continued reckless Exemptions to the Growth Management Plan will be a thing of the past.

Yale University is about to celebrate the 250th birthday of Noah Webster. If I had a nickel for every one of my offenses against his dictionary, I could probably help bail out Wall Street all by myself. ;-)
